MICRO-CRYSTAL DERMABRASION
MD011--Instruction of Duo Peel
1. INTRODUCTION
Micro-Crystal Dermabrasion
Microdermabrasion was developed in Italy in the mid 1980's. It was first brought to this country by Fred DeJacma in 1983 after he discovered it while searching for a C02 laser for his laser sales and service business. Known then simply as a "dermabrader, " Mr. DeJacma brought this technology to the United States, submitted it to the FDA for 510k clearance, trademarked the name "Power Peel" and delivered several units to physicians for testing and study.
In December of 1996, Mr. DeJacrna received 510k clearance from the FDA and began to actively market the Microdermabrasion System. A model specifically designed for the esthetician was added to his line, and the treatment became very popular among clients in salons and spas for facial rejuvenation and the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles; sun damage; hyper-pigmentation; uneven skin tone; rough skin; oily and acne prone skin; comedones; enlarged pores; and pre and post Laser treatment.
The Microdermabrasion System works by vacuuming ultra-fine aluminum oxide micro-crystals across the surface of the skin, exfoliating gently and precisely, removing dead skin cells and revealing the new softer, fresher skin below.
The finely abrasive action also stimulates the production of new skin cells, collagen and elastin, further improving the skin's appearance.
Treatments should be performed every 7 to 10 days for a series of 6 to 12 sessions and then monthly to maintain results.
2.2 Diamond Dermabrasion
The Diamond Peel treatment epidermal layers at varying depths in a controlled manner, minimizing skin trauma. It mechanically alters the epidermis and invigorates cell renewal to create a healthy, balances skin surface. It is then possible to improve or eliminate many skin conditions and skin imperfections. The machine also has the hot & cold treatment functions. The cold treatment functions. The cold treatment function is specially designed for claming down the skin after peeling. The skin is sensitive after peeling treatment, so the cold treatment procures is necessary. The hot treatment function is designed for accelerating the absorption of nutrition.
2. SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
The Microdermabrasion System exfoliates skin using vacuum pressure, which draws aluminum oxide across the skin's surface.
ificationThe major components of the system are the vacuum pump, the compressor, the metal hand piece, and the tubing interlink. The patented operator controlled hand piece is made from stainless steel with a titanium venturi valve and is fitted with a macralon tip with an oval aperture to allow air and crystals to flow through. This tip is changed between each procedure. Plastic tubing connects the hand piece to the system's two crystal bottles.
When the hand piece is placed in full contact with the skin, a vacuum is created, there by activating the system's crystal flow. This vacuum may be visually confirmed by watching crystals agitate in the clean container. The airflow system begins at the compressors intake port, then passes through the clean crystal container and carries the microcrystals through the tubing to the handpiece .
The specially engineered shape of the hand piece nozzle allows a uniform and effective exfoliating action. Once the crystals pass over the skin, the used crystals are vacuumed into the sealed waste bottle. The speed of the crystal flow may be controlled by adjusting the regulator knob.

4. OPERATION
Do not turn on your Duo Peel System until the procedures on the previous page have been successfully completed. Operate according to the instructions provided below. Before attempting to operate the Duo Peel unit, we strongly recommend that all operators read the instructions completely.
1. Operator is advised to wear eye protection, particulate mask and gloves while performing all microdermabrasion procedures.
2. Turn on the power switch.
3. Set the vacuum control at between 10 and 20 cm hg while in contact with the skin.
4. Place the open portion of the plastic tip completely over the skin. When the tip is properly placed on the skin, a successful system vacuum will be established, and the crystals in the clean bottle will begin to agitate.
5. IMMEDIATELY begin moving the hand piece in 2 to 3 inch strokes over the area being treated. The unit will continue vacuuming microcrystals across the skin as long as the aperture of the hand piece remains in full contact with the skin and the crystals in the clean bottle continue to agitate.
6. A trail of microcrystal will appear on the portion of skin that has been treated. Once the entire area to be treated has been covered, this is referred to as a "pass." It is recommended that the microcrystals be removed between passes by disconnecting the small tube from the clean crystal bottle and using the hand piece in vacuum only mode.
7. It is recommended that a proper power setting be selected so that 2 to 3 passes may be done in one session.
5. TREATMENT
1. The rate of exfoliation is directly related to the rate at which the hand piece is moved across the skin, or "stroke speed, " and the vacuum pressure setting. By turning up the vacuum control dial, the rate of exfoliation increases.
2. We offer the following vacuum power settings as a guideline only. The power setting you select will depend on the client's skin type and condition and your stroke technique:
00 - 20 This is a low power setting and is selected for areas of sensitive skin, such as around the eyes (avoiding the lids and sensitive under-eye area), the neck, areas of rosacea, coppernose, broken capillaries, etc.
20 - 25 This is a low to medium power setting, ideal for a client's first treatment and for regular treatments on slightly sensitive skin or for those with a slower stroke technique. If using the foot pedal, this is the maximum power setting used.
25 - 35 A medium power setting used for most routine treatments.
30 -40 A medium to high power setting used for thicker skin, hyperpigmentation and scarred areas. The client will feel the abrasion, but as long as the hand piece is moved in quick short strokes, it should not be uncomfortable. No foot pedal is used.
6. NOTE:
Some clients with sensitive skin may find treatments uncomfortable. It is recommended that in these situations you use a lower power setting in favor of longer treatment session, making more passes over the same area and/or a longer series of treatment sessions. The treatment should never be painful.
In most cases, clients find the treatments very enjoyable, as they receive an invigorating facial in addition to the treatment of the problem areas. Most clients notice softer and smoother skin after just one session, but for appreciable results, at least 6 to 12 sessions are needed, spaced 7 to 10 days apart.
3. Once the proper vacuum setting is selected, the operator should use the thumb and forefinger of the free hand to hold the skin taut. This will improve contact between the hand piece tip and the skin, creating a more effective vacuum.
4. Begin treatment by gently moving the hand piece over the treatment area in short, quick strokes. In order to ensure a uniform exfoliation, cover an area completely using horizontal strokes. Then go over the same area again using vertical strokes. V/hen an area is completely covered in one direction, we refer to this as a "pass." It is recommended that for most routine treatments two to three passes be made.
5. A light coating of microcrystals will appear on the portion of the skin that has been treated. After treatment is completed, simply brush away the remaining microcrystals, or disconnect the small tube from the clear container and use the hand piece to vacuum remaining crystals.
6. Clean your waste bottle after each client to ensure proper operation of your Duo Peel System.
7. Discard the plastic tip after each client. Attempting to re-use tips or sterilize them in an autoclave could result in a misshapen aperture, prohibiting adequate crystal flow.
